- How important is "focus" in your personal life? In your professional life? What are some good tools and strategies you've used to help you get and stay focused?
- What are the most transformational/motivational songs you know of right now? What music motivates you to be your best? (You can include, but please don't limit it to "Christian" music. In fact, I'm thinking more along the lines of Ryan Shupe's "Dream Big," Tim McGraw's "Live Like You Were Dying," etc.) What would be on your "at-bat" playlist?
- You're hiring or enlisting or recruiting (thanks, Jim!) new
staffpersonnel to do __________. Is it more about passion or skill? Which is more important? - Is it more helpful to include individual links in a blogroll or just include a link to your ever-changing, ever-updating Bloglines feed list?

Readin' and Thinkin'...
Just sitting around, reading, thinking, unwinding, following up on guests from today's service, etc. and a couple of issues have made their way from my mind into my Moleskine. What do you think?

1. Focus is a huge focus of my life lately, seriously. I am trying to focus on what is really important and not be caught up in all the distractions. For me, I am trying to be still and listen to God, as Psalms 34:7 says 'Be still and know that I am God' Allowing God to rule in my life is a big step for me. It's one thing to know it in my head, but to step back and consciously surrender all to Him is challenging. I'm learning I can't fix everything, only Christ can.
2. Songs- Lately Matthew West is nailing it for me. Light of Eternity is a song about exactly where I'm at. The busyness of life and holding up all that we do in the light of eternity. Then the next song on the cd is called Out of Time and it talks about being afraid to step out of our comfort zone due to our inabilities. It's good stuff. There's others but those are 2 that are up there. Most of that CD is excellent. Music that meets me where I am and pushes me farther is what I like.
3. I'm not on staff at a church, so not in a position to hire, but I'll answer this anyway. (This question applies somewhat to recruiting volunteers and I actually have a post written, in the hopper, that I need to tweak a bit before it's ready for primetime. It addresses this issue to a degree.) I would have to say you need at least a little of both, but passion, I think, would be as critical, if not more critical that skill. Skill can be learned, passion cannot. if the passion is not there, it's difficult to manufacture that but skills can be learned and improved.
4. That's a tossup, I have a link to my bloglines on my blog, just because the list is so long. It's interesting to see what others read and if I've got the time, I'll click the link to see what someone reads.
We actually did the Tim McGraw song Sunday. It was awesome.
1) I believe focus is very important in personal and professional life. Keep life simple by regularly creating a "Stop Doing List" and removing excess stuff. It's also important to know your personality and passion. Then focus and simplify around those traits. Give responsiblities to others if they're not a good fit for you.
3) Hire, enlist or recuit by personality, passion and values, not skill. Over the long term, skill will develop if the personality, passion and values are there.
1. whew. I wish I was more focused
